Water samples from pool where Adriana Younge’s body found sent overseas for forensic analysis -Police

The Guyana Police Force has announced that as part of the investigations into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge, water samples from the pool at the Double Day Hotel were collected and have been sent overseas for independent forensic analysis.

The child’s lifeless body was found in the hotel’s pool, one day after she was reported missing during a family outing at the same hotel. A post-mortem examination concluded that she died by drowning, but the investigations into her death have been ongoing.

In a statement by the Guyana Police Force this afternoon, the Police also stated that the investigation is ongoing, with all leads and evidence being pursued.

The Police Force also stated that oversight of the investigation is being maintained at the senior level to ensure thoroughness and impartiality.

This statement from the Police Force this afternoon came hours after a meeting between the Police Commissioner and two of his deputies and the family of the Adriana Younge and their Attorneys.

After the meeting, the Attorneys complained that answers were not provided to many of their questions about the investigation into the girl’s death.

However, this afternoon, the Police Force said any information not provided during the meeting was withheld only to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and avoid compromising its outcomes.

The Police Force said it welcomed the engagement with the family and their Attorneys as an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and diligent investigative work.

According to the Police, several questions were answered during the meeting, while others, due to the sensitive and evolving nature of the investigation, required further verification and were deferred for written responses following consultation with the investigative team.

The Police said it remains committed to keeping the family informed within the boundaries of legal and procedural requirements.

It was also noted that the investigation into the tragic death of Adriana Younge is being pursued with the utmost seriousness and care.

The Police Force has faced a hammering over its initial posture when the family filed a missing child report.

The Police initially issued a statement claiming that the girl was captured on surveillance video leaving the hotel in a vehicle. Several hours later, the Force admitted that the information was false. The girl’s body was found in the hotel’s pool after the family said several searches of the pool were conducted and came up empty handed.

The child’s death has gripped the nation over the past two weeks, with widespread protests erupting upon the discovery of her body and after her post-mortem examination.

The family is still to finalize her funeral arrangements, after initially postponing the funeral on Monday.
