oday, Magistrate Fabayo Azore told the court that due to the evidence that was presented, she found that it was not enough to prove that Mr. Powers was driving in a manner that was dangerous to the public and which caused the death of Andrew Lewis.

The man accused of causing the death of Guyana’s first international boxing Champion, Andrew Sixhead Lewis, by dangerous driving, walked out of Court a free man today after the Magistrate found that the Prosecutor had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Prosecution has already indicated its intention to appeal the ruling of the Magistrate.

The former accused,  Manex Powers calmly walked out of the Courtroom after the decision was handed down.

The trial had been ongoing for almost two years.

Today, Magistrate Fabayo Azore told the court that due to the evidence that was presented, she found that it was not enough to prove that Mr. Powers was driving in a manner that was dangerous to the public and which caused the death of Andrew Lewis.

It was on the 4th May, 2015, when Andrew “Six Head” Lewis was riding a bicycle on the right hand side of the East Bank Demerara roadway and made a turn to cross the road, but instead collided with the vehicle being driven by Powers.

He was rushed to the Diamond Community Hospital where Doctors pronounced dead as a result of multiple injuries to his head and other parts of the body.

Before leaving the Courthouse, the former accused said he believed the trial was vey fair. It was at that point that the Prosecutor, Stephen Telford, indicated to the Court, that the verdict will be appealed.

Family members of the late boxing champion broke down in tears outside the Courtroom as they learnt of the Magistrate’s decision.
