Bandit shot by police after trailing car with passengers from the airport

A suspected bandit is nursing a gunshot wound to his foot in the Georgetown Hospital and two of his accomplices managed to escape after they were involved in a shootout with policemen while trailing a car with persons who had just arrived in the country on Wednesday night.

The incident took place just after 11:00pm in Barr Street, Kitty.  According to reports, a police officer had just picked up some relatives at the airport when he noticed that he was being trailed by a car from the airport all the way to the city.

The quick thinking cop sought assistance from his police colleagues and a group of police ranks confronted the occupants of the car at Barr Street Kitty.

A statement from the Police said “the police ranks came under fire from the occupants of the motor vehicle and returned fire wounding 37-year-old Shawn Thom, of National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, to his left foot. He has been admitted a patient at the GPHC where he is under guard. His accomplice managed to escape.”

The police also reported that an unlicensed .38 revolver with 3 live rounds and 2 spent shells were recovered and the motor vehicle was seized by the police.

Investigations are in progress.

Just recently, a travel agent and her young son were robbed by a group of bandits just after they arrived in the country and made their way home. There have been several similar cases in the past.
