The US based Guyanese private jet pilot, who had pleaded guilty to bulk cash smuggling into the United States, has now been convicted on drug trafficking charges.

Two years ago, the man, Khamraj Lall was charged by US authorities for being in possession with intent to distribute cocaine and importation of cocaine into the United States.

He has now been found guilty of those charges and faces up to ten years in prison.

According to the original indictment, between December 2013 and February 10, 2015, Lall conspired to bring more than five kilograms of cocaine from Guyana into the United States.

The pilot was accused and has been found guilty of transporting the cocaine on his flights from Guyana to the United States aboard his private jet.

During the trial the Court learnt that the cocaine was transported to Rochester, New York and processed, re-packaged, and distributed in various quantities of both powder and crack cocaine through multiple sellers in the Rochester area.

Before the cocaine charges, Lall was taken into custody in Puerto Rico and charged for smuggling over US$600,000 on his private jet. The flight was heading to Guyana and was on a fuel stop in Puerto Rico when the bust was made.  He pleaded guilty to those charges but fought the drug trafficking charges, which he has now lost.

At the time of his arrest, Lall was preparing to expand his operations in Guyana and had even been granted permission a few years ago to set up his own private hanger at the Cheddi Jagan Airport.
