Kwame and others granted $100,000 bail each on faeces throwing charge

Former Presidential Spokesman under the PPP, Kwame McKoy, former Office of the President staffer, Jason Abdulla and self-confessed death squad member, Sean Hinds, were all granted bail in the sum of $100,000 each when they appeared in court this morning and were charged with the unlawful assault of newspaper columnist Freddie Kissoon.

The charges stemmed from the 2010 incident when Kissoon who was a fierce critic of the PPP government, was doused with human faeces as he approached his vehicle in front of Nigel’s supermarket.

As the three men made their way into the court-yard this morning, a large and loud crowd gathered on the outside. Many of those gathered explained satisfaction with seeing the charges filed against the men.

The outspoken McKoy, who was dressed in a red shirt, shouted as he made his way into the court-yard that he is a political prisoner and was wrongfully accused.

Once in front of the Magistrate, the charges were read to the men and they were all granted bail on the condition that they report to the Criminal Investigations Department and also lodge their passports.

McKoy told the court that he had lost his passport. The court was not moved by that explanation and it was explained to him that lodging the passport is a condition of his bail.

The three men were shackled at the hands and feet as they made their way in and out of the court. The other two suspects, Jason Abdulla and Sean Hinds remained quiet as they walked in and out of the court. The gaunt looking McKoy maintained that he was a political prisoner.

A number of members of the former PPP government including Jennifer Westford who has her own legal troubles, appeared in court to support McKoy and Abdulla.

The victim of the assault, Freddie Kissoon, was also present at the courthouse. He said he still wants investigators to go behind the “intellectual authors” of the attack.

The prosecutor told the court that based on a statement from Abdulla, the assault was planned by McKoy but executed by Sean Hinds and himself (Abdullla)

The men will make their next court appearance on March 11, 2016.

Meanwhile, investigations into the Courtney Crum-Ewing murder are ongoing and the men are still being considered as suspects in that case.
