Mon Repos handyman shot dead by gunmen while hanging out with wife and friends

A late night hang between family members turned deadly this morning when the group was attacked by two masked men who shot one of the family members dead while robbing the others.

Dead is 30-year-old, Christopher Swamy of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

The incident took place around 1:30 this morning. The Police report said the man was hanging out at the front of his yard in the company of his wife, her sister and two friends when they were attacked by the gunmen.

According to a Police report, the five persons were liming and imbibing in front of Swamy’s home when they were suddenly pounced upon by two masked gunmen, one of whom was carrying a weapon.

The gunmen relieved one of the man’s friends of her cellphone and a sum of cash while lashing the friend’s husband to the head. However, while fleeing the scene, they shot Christopher Swamy to the chest.

The young man collapsed as the gunmen made good their escape. He was taken to the Georgetown Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The friend who was hit across the head was treated and is in a stable condition.
