With a total of 28,368 house lots allocated in the past three years, the Central Housing and Planning Authority is pushing to have infrastructure works completed to allow persons to gain access to those lots to begin construction.
At press conference at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC)today, the Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal admitted that almost 10,000 allottees are awaiting access to their allocated lands.
“Of the 30,000 that we speak about, about 20,000 of those would have been able to access or see their land. Currently, for example, on the East Bank of Demerara, there are a number of blocks…Grove Diamond area, by the end of this month…they will be able to access those lands,” Minister Croal said.
He noted that due to the large backlog of applications, CH&PA would allocate lands, and then proceed to develop the lands in some cases, resulting in a delay in access.
He said from 2021 to 2023, the Government has injected more than $102 Billion into Housing Sector to facilitate infrastructural development.
Minister Croal said notwithstanding the current challenges, the Government will continue to invest in the Housing Sector as it forges ahead with its plan to allocate a total of 50,000 house lots by 2025.
This year, CH&PA intends to allocate an additional 10,000 house lots.

He said to ensure access to the housing schemes, the Housing Ministry will inject an additional $22 Billion into development of road networks, particularly those in Regions Three and Four.
“In addition to our investment for new areas, and I just said over 40 plus new areas, to date, we have for highways, we have completed over 23 kilometers of highways, spending at least $25B. When you take into consideration our two new awarded areas, which would include the ongoing Schoonord to Crane four-lane, which we expect to be completed sometime by this first quarter and you take into consideration, the new extension that has been awarded for Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam-Craig, those two combinations $22B investment, that says overall on completed highways and current highways under infrastructure, we have an investment of over $47.4B,” the Housing Minister explained.
There are currently, 63,000 active house-lot applications in the system. Of that number, there are about 3,000 new applications that were submitted since 2020.
