Budget focuses heavily on Government’s priorities while pushing development goals -Minister Indar

Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, today defended and praised the $1.146 trillion National Budget, stating that it will not only continue the developmental trajectory of the Government, but it also sets the stage for massive development for Guyanese.

During his budget debate presentation, he said the Government will continue to put large sums of money towards the development of citizens.

“A lot of people are being helped by this government, we don’t turn our face from the father-less, we don’t turn our face from the blind and down-trodden, we brace it and we put programme in place to help them, that is what this budget is delivering,” Minister Indar noted.

Minister Indar spent most of his debate time rebutting the Opposition’s statements on the budget, while comparing the current Government to the Coalition’s time in office.

He was critical of persons who believe the Government is mismanaging the economy.

According to him, the economy over the last few years has been growing at an unprecedented pace, and Guyanese now have more confidence in the system.

As it relates to his own sector in public infrastructure, the Government Minister said roads and bridges are being built at an accelerated pace, due to the fast rate in which the country is expanding. He said the interventions are set to ensure that the country remains competitive.

“Every single community in this country will see development and has seen development because we have built more than 4,000 community roads, all of the highways, and byways and bridges we are and we will be building them,” Indar said.

Moreover, Indar, indicated that the heavy investment in Health and Education this year is testament of the Government’s priorities.
