Probe continues into gunning down of man outside Wake house

Police investigators are continuing their probe into the execution-style murder of Campbellville resident  Joseph Wilkinson, aka “Dreddy”.

The 49-year-old man was shot dead early yesterday morning, moments after he stepped out from a wake that he was attending in the South Ruimveldt Park area.

According to reports, while attending the wake, Wilkinson stepped outside the yard after receiving a phone call.

It was while he was standing a short distance away from where the wake was being held that gunshots were heard. A car was seen speeding away from the scene, as the Wilkinson’s body fell to the ground.

He was picked up and rushed to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Some of his friends later reported that he was shot multiple times to the body.

Investigators visited the scene of the shooting, and were seen picking up pieces of evidence. A motive for the killing remains unknown.

Two years ago, the man was charged along with two others after being held with a large quantity of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was initially remanded, but later released on bail in connection with that charge.
