The Guyana Energy Agency has indicated that it intends to appeal a Magistrate’s decision to dismiss the charge of importing petroleum without an import wholesale license that it had filed against businessman Dorwain Bess.
Two weeks ago, Magistrate Sunil Scarce, upheld a no-case submission by the Attorneys for Mr. Bess, dismissing the illegal fuel importation charge. The Magistrate found that a case had not been made out against the accused.
In a statement last evening, the Guyana Energy Agency said it believes that the Magistrate erred with his decision, adding that it presented the evidence of five (5) witnesses against the accused in the matter.
The GEA is contending that between the 3rd and 4th November, 2020 at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, Bess imported 155,000 litres of diesel without authority to do so under an import or an importing wholesale licence.
The Guyana Energy Agency said it continues its mandate in ensuring that persons do not engage in the importation of fuel without the requisite licences issued by the Guyana Energy Agency.
Bess has always declared his innocence in the matter.
