A late night row over a husband’s alcohol drinking habit has led to the stabbing death of a 34-year-old woman by her drunk husband.
Police investigators have identified the dead woman as Anuradha Khatoon, who was a fruits vendor in the West Demerara area.
In a statement this morning, the Guyana Police Force reported that based on information gathered, at around 11:30pm on Saturday, Khatoon got into an argument with her 30-year-old reputed husband moments after the man returned to their Best village, West Coast Demerara home in a drunken state.
The Police report indicated that the argument started after the woman complained to the man about his alcohol drinking, encouraging him to “ease on the alcohol drinking”.
During the argument between the two, the 30-year-old husband who works as a fisherman, armed himself with a knife and stabbed the woman to her neck.
The injured woman collapsed in the living room of the house as the husband ran away from the scene. The woman’s 12-year-old son was awakened by his mother’s screams and he rose an alarm, according to the Police report.
Khatoon was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
Police investigators said the murder weapon was found on the floor of the kitchen in the house, but the suspect remains on the run, and is still to be arrested.
