Police investigators have travelled to the North Rupununi village of Fly Hill to investigate the murder of 40-year-old farmer, Chardson Ernest.
Ernest was found dead early this morning by his 22-year-old nephew outside his house moments after he was heard screaming out for help. The nephew said stab wounds were noticed on his body and the man’s uncle was spotted in the yard with a knife in his hand. The 22-year-old said he took away the knife from the suspect, who later escaped from the scene before the arrival of the Police.
The Police in its statement indicated that based on reports, the farmer and his two uncles were hanging out while drinking alcohol at a street corner when they got into an argument.
During the argument, the 40-year-old man was accused by his two uncles of stealing their cows. A row broke out between the three intoxicated men, and it was reported that the nephew left for his home.
Police believe the man was followed to his home by one of his uncles, who attacked and stabbed him as he sat outside his house just after 3 o’clock this morning. He died on the spot.
Investigators are searching for the suspect.
