The Ministry of Natural Resources is once again warning against illegal gold mining activities taking place in the country.

In a statement, the Ministry said illegal mining activities will not be tolerated. It issued a call on all miners to follow the prescribed process to legitimize their operations, adding that those who are engaging in illegal activities should desist, or risk being prosecuted by the state.

According to the Ministry, it remains eager to foster greater collaboration with small and medium-scale miners to ensure the sector remains a viable one.

There continues to be growing concern about illegal gold mining activities in the country, amidst a worrying decline in gold declarations. Gold declarations coming from small and medium scale miners has been on the decline over the past few years.

The Natural Resources Ministry also reminded that the Government has instituted a number of measures to assist the mining sector, with tax breaks and concessions.
