Twenty days after he was shot just outside his Norton Street apartment, 70-year-old, Raymond Knipe, passed away at the Georgetown Hospital on Friday, without making a full recovery.
While he regained consciousness and was alert at times, his condition worsened on Friday morning, and he died later the same day.
Family members said a post-mortem examination was conducted on his remains today and the cause of death was given as septic shock.
Knipe had just parked his mini-bus and was walking into his yard on the night of the 3rd August, when he noticed a man dressed in dark colored clothes walking towards him.
The elderly man told investigators that the man pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger, but it did not go off initially.
He said he started to run and raised an alarm, but as he attempted to open the door to his apartment, the man fired a number of shots in his direction.
He sustained two gunshot wounds and collapsed on the ground. The assailant was seen escaping from the area in a waiting motorcar, which was spotted heading in the direction of Mandela Avenue from Norton Street.
Investigators said they recovered three 9mm spent shells at the scene. While there has been no arrest in the case, family members told the investigators that days before the incident, the elderly man was threatened by one of his nephews over a dispute. The nephew has not been seen since the shooting incident. The case is now being treated as a murder investigation.
