A Chinese supermarket owner is hospitalised with multiple gunshot wounds after coming under attack during a suspected robbery attempt this morning. The incident occurred just after 7am, according to the Police.

A Police report stated that the businessman was sitting in his vehicle just outside his Durban Street “First Choice” supermarket, when a security guard on duty heard multiple gunshots.

Police investigators were told that an armed suspect was noticed speeding off from the area on a black motorcycle.

The security guard also told investigators that he observed and saw the suspect riding away from the scene in a western direction along Durban Street.

The injured businessman, Jianjing Cheng, was taken to the hospital where he was admitted in a serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Police said the scene of the shooting has since been processed, and three suspected 9mm spent shells were found. A probe is underway.
