
Avianca Airlines of Colombia has been granted approval to operate schedule flights between Guyana and Colombia.
The airline announced today that it will begin the Guyana service in December and will operate two flights per week between Guyana and Colombia.
In a statement today, Avianca announced that the new route will be operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers, offering over 700 seats per week between Bogotá and Georgetown with the two weekly flights.
The airline also indicated that the service features a flexible commercial offer focused on personalization, allowing customers to fly the way they prefer, paying only for the services they choose.
According to Avianca’s Sales Director for Colombia and South America, David Aleman, the airline is very happy to join the Guyana market with high expectations for the new route.
Meanwhile, the Government of Guyana has welcomed the new service.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar said as the Government continues to invest in modernizing the country’s aviation infrastructure and forge partnerships with renowned global airlines, Avianca’s entry into the local market will significantly boost interest in Guyana’s unique offerings.
Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, expressed enthusiasm that this new route will boost visitor arrivals while stimulating investment and economic growth.
Avianca is one of the largest airlines operating out of South America and currently operates to more than 100 destinations.
