Rosignol man arrested over “staged” $10 Million robbery

A 37-year-old man from Rosignol, Berbice who was hired to transport just over $10 million from a cambio in Georgetown to a jewellery company in Berbice has been arrested after for allegedly stashing the cash for himself and claiming that he had been robbed.

The Police said Paramdeo Victor turned up at the Mahaica Police station at around 12:30 on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that he had been attacked and robbed by three armed men at Unity in Mahaica. The man told investigators that his car was braced off the road by a car carrying three men and he was held at gunpoint and robbed.

Investigators started to question the man in detail about the alleged robbery and realised that his story was not adding up.

The Police realised the man’s story appeared fictitious and during interrogation, he admitted that he was not robbed, but had stolen the money.

The man led investigators to his car, where $2million was found stashed. He later claimed that the rest of the money was with an accomplice at Ithaca on the West Bank of Berbice.

Police ranks traveled to the Berbice village but after not locating the alleged accomplice, the ranks decided to visit Victor’s Rosignol residence. At the house, the Police said they found $6 million in cash hidden in a washing machine.

Police believe the accomplice, who they identified as Cornell Taylor, may have the remaining $2.2 million.

Meanwhile, the main suspect remains in custody and will face charges.
