A suspected bandit was shot dead by the Police at #61 Beach in Corentyne, Berbice on Wednesday just after he robbed two men of their money, jewellery and mobile phones.

According to a police report, just after the incident occurred around 2:45pm, ranks on patrol caught up with the bandit and his accomplice but came under gunfire. The police returned fire and the bandit who has been identified as 23-year-old Delroy Cort was fatally wounded. The accomplice was able to make good his escape.

The dead young man lived at Manchester Village, Corentyne.

According to the Police report, “an unlicensed 12 gauge shotgun along with 2 cartridges and the two stolen cell phones were recovered by the police.”
