Charges still to be filed against Policemen fingered in abduction and robbery probe

More than six weeks since two Policemen were identified among three persons who abducted and later robbed a Providence man, charges are still to be laid against the two Policemen although the Director of Public Prosecutions recommended charges.

The Guyana Police Force is now claiming that it is awaiting technical advice before proceeding with the charges. It would not indicate the sort of “technical advice” being sought.

The victim, Kevin Fiedkou, was taking his car to the washbay at the Giftland Mall when he was forced out of his vehicle and dumped in the back of a car by three men who identified themselves as Police Officers.

Fiedkou said the men drove him around the city while demanding money and threatening to take his life. They were armed with guns.

He explained that fearing for his life, he eventually told his abductors that he had money at home that he was saving for his family’s trucking business. The man said after providing the men with directions, they drove him to the house where he was forced to hand over the money and other valuables.

The victim explained that they removed his surveillance camera recording device and told him that they would return the following day. Fiedkou said to his surprise, the men kept their promise and returned the following day, but this time in an official Police car. He said they demanded more money and valuables, but left after he told them that he had given them all that he had.

While Fiedkou’s camera system had been dismantled by the abductors, they were captured on both days that they went to his house on the security cameras of his neighbours and other persons in the area.

The two Policemen were positively identified and arrested. A file was sent to the DPP and charges were advised. However, since then, the two have not been taken before the Court. One of the suspects served as a driver for a Police Commander.
