Delaware’s Chief Medical Examiner to arrive on Sunday for autopsy on body of Adrianna Younge

The Chief Medical Examiner of the US State of Delaware, Dr. Gary Collins, is expected to arrive in Guyana on Sunday to perform the autopsy on the body of 11-year-old, Adrianna Younge, who was found dead in the pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen on Thursday.

The Medical Examiner was selected by the family of the young girl through their Attorney Darren Wade.

Already, the Medical Examiner has requested a skeletal survey of the young girl’s body along with a full body CT scan. The family has also indicated that they have requested the presence of a local doctor identified by them to be part of the team that will be present for the autopsy.

During a visit with the family on Saturday midday at their Parika home, President Irfaan Ali informed them that their request for the independent autopsy is being granted.

“We want full transparency. I have asked the Police to ensure everything is video recorded, everything is observed, as much witness as the family wants to be there that would be medically permissible, and all of that and all of the requests in relation to the post-mortem be honoured”, the President explained to News Source.

The young girl, Adrianna Younge, was with her grandmother, siblings and other relatives at the Double Day Pool on Wednesday as part of a family outing. While at the pool, the child vanished from plain sight. Her grandmother immediately raised an alarm as she sought help from hotel staff. She said searches of the pool by family members and other persons who were at the poolside at the time came up empty handed. The girl’s mother and father rushed down to the hotel as the grandmother contacted the Police.

The Police arrived on the scene and requested the family to go home, with the Commanding Officer claiming that he had seen a video recording with the young girl entering a car and leaving the hotel. That claim turned out to be completely false.

The family kept guard at the hotel into the night and remained there with supporters until the following day, with the crowd growing large.

Less than an hour after the Human Services Minister arrived at the scene and demanded the hotel be shut down and a complete search with sniffer dogs be done, the body of the young girl suddenly appeared in the pool. Her death led to protests by supporters of the family and the hotel was set ablaze. During that time, the Guyana Police Force also admitted that its earlier release about the girl leaving the hotel in a car, was inaccurate.

The hotel was completely gutted and the Guyana Police Force today announced that the Police Officer who was serving as Commander in the area at the time and who interacted with the family, has since been sent on administrative leave, while three of his ranks have been placed under close arrest. They are now being probed about their actions at the hotel after receiving a complaint about the child’s disappearance.

Meanwhile, the family of the dead child is requesting an international investigation. They have requested that the Government seeks the help of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations, the British Scotland Yard Police or the Canadian Police.

They have indicated that they have no trust in the Guyana Police Force.
