The Guyana Police Force is probing the hurling of an explosive device at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost early this morning. Investigators suspect the device might have been a grenade.

The incident occurred around 12:40 this morning. According to Police sources, there was one Police Officer performing duties at the outpost at the time of the incident and she was alerted to the loud explosion in the southern side of the compound.

On making checks, it was discovered that the southern gate to the compound at Vlissengen Square and East Front Road had been blown off. An alarm was immediately raised and Police investigators arrived at the scene around 12:50 this morning.

The investigators found the metal gate that had been blown off about six feet away from the location, but there were no fragments of the explosive device found. However, other metal fragments were found in the area and persons complained of hearing fragments hitting their roofs.
