Two men from the West Berbice area lost their lives tragically this morning along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway when the driver lost control of the car and ended up in the path of a mini-bus that was heading in the opposite direction.
The two dead men have been identified as 40-year-old Kowmarlram Ramin who was the driver of the car and his lone passenger, 29-year-old Fitzgerald Carter.
According to a report from the Police, the driver of the mini-bus stated that he was driving north along the highway when he noticed the driver of the car appearing to lose control of the vehicle as he drove onto a section of the highway that is under construction with lots of building material on it.
The bus driver, who is from Linden, said the car was being driven at a fast rate and ended up in the path of his mini-bus. He told the Police that he applied brakes but could not avoid the collision.
The driver and passenger of the car were taken out of the mangled car and taken to the Linden Hospital where they were both pronounced dead.
The mini-bus driver and a number of his passengers were also taken to the Linden Hospital nursing various injuries.
The accident occurred at around 5:10 this morning. A full investigation is underway, as drivers traversing the highway are being reminded that it is currently under reconstruction and they should proceed with extreme caution.
