Presidential Candidate for the APNU, Aubrey Norton, on Sunday night told party supporters that the prospects are looking good for an APNU government after the September elections.
Addressing the launch of his campaign rally and appearing on stage to the sound of Vybz Kartel’s “God is the Greatest” hit song, the APNU leader said the electorate is tired of the governing People’s Progressive Party, which he said, continues to govern the country by fear.
Mr. Norton said the country’s new found oil wealth has created a perfect opportunity to lift every citizen out of poverty, but the PPP continues to govern in a partisan way.
“Time up, Time up for the PPP!, I want to say this to you, they will seek to instill fear because hey govern by fear but when you are confronting a regime like the People’s Progressive Party, you have to take them on and not be afraid,” Norton told his supporters.
The APNU Leader said many Guyanese have written his party off, but he said the base of the party is unshakable. He said he is confident that after Nomination Day, when Guyanese see the caliber of his party’s candidates, the choice will be easier to make. He believes that when the party’s elections campaign kick into gear, the party will also able to retain lost ground.

“Those who believe that we were dead, were mistaken, we are a strong political party, we are a strong political force and we beat them before and we will beat them again.
Mr. Norton unveiled what he called a people-centered development plan, where jobs, health, education and agriculture take center stage.
He said Guyana has a perfect opportunity now to grow, but it must do so under a government that will put people first.
“We are dealing with a corrupt regime and we have to ensure that that regime goes its way. We are saying to you the Guyanese people, we will create jobs, and we will create jobs in Agriculture, this government knows well that there is high cost of living and they take no action to deal with it. If three or four regions are providing all the foods for Guyanese, obviously there will be shortage, and where this is shortage the prices will go up. We are saying to you that our agricultural programme, every region will have a sustainable agricultural programme and producing the food they need,” Mr. Norton said.
The APNU rally launch was held at the Square of the Revolution.
