Three days after he was busted in the East Coast Demerara village of Beterverwagting with just over 17 pounds of cocaine in his possession, 32-year-old Morris Cameron has pleaded guilty to a charge of drug trafficking.
Cameron appeared in Court this morning where the charge was read to him and he opted to enter a guilty plea. With the guilty plea, the presiding Magistrate at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to four years in jail and also fined him $30,000.
The 32-year-old man was nabbed during a Customs Anti Narcotics Unit operation. CANU said during the operation, Cameron was intercepted with a bag carrying several large parcels of cocaine. He was immediately arrested and told of the charge that he will face.
CANU has been conducting a number of intelligence-led operations that have resulted in multiple drug busts in the past few months.
