US-based Guyanese, Dwayne Lustal, who is originally from Linden, has officially launched his own tequila brand – Gran Latsul Tequila.
During a recent visit to Guyana, he explained that as a young entrepreneur, his goal in starting the business was not just to build a brand, but to gain freedom and create a way to provide for himself and his family.
The launch of Gran Latsul Tequila is the result of nearly four years of preparation and innovation, he said.
During this time, Lustal said he worked carefully on every detail to create a brand that could stand out in a competitive market. He funded the entire project himself, introducing the brand with three flavors – Blanco, Reposado and Añejo – giving customers a variety of choices.

Lustal expressed that the journey was not easy. He admitted that he had no prior knowledge of the industry and no experience in making or selling tequila, but he spent months on research before reaching out to distilleries to develop his private label.
“When I decided to go full force with this brand, it was challenging in a lot of ways because I have actually no experience in the alcohol or the liquor industry,” he said, “So it was like starting something from scratch with no experience, and I did a lot of research for months upon months before I contacted anyone.”
As of now, Gran Latsul Tequila is only sold in the U.S in stores in Brooklyn.
Lustal has plans to make it available online soon, with shipping to homes, and he expects to launch the brand in Guyana early next year.
“As soon as it gets to Guyana, grab a bottle and live life to the fullest,” said Lustal. (Jade Bradford)
