Three years after she was charged with an attempt to ship cocaine out of Guyana in Hindu religious ornaments, 27-year-old Lisa Ramnarine of Hague, West Coast Demerara has been found guilty of the cocaine trafficking charge and has been sentenced to 32 months in jail.
In addition to the jail sentence, Ramnarine has been fined $810,000. The guilty verdict and sentence were handed down by City Magistrate Leron Daly.
It was on June 7, 2022 that Ramnarine, who was 23-years-old at the time, was nabbed at the DHL Shipping company when she attempted to ship 500 grams of cocaine out of Guyana.
The cocaine was found concealed in several small Hindu religious ornaments. The young lady had denied the allegations, but the Magistrate found her guilty of the charge after listening to various testimonies during her trial.
At the time of her arrest, Ramnarine was a popular on social media, amassing more than 60,000 followers on tiktok alone.
