The Universal Church in Guyana today announced that it has removed its pastor, who got involved in a loud verbal confrontation with a driver over parking on the parapet in front of the church. The issue took place on Monday at the Church’s Charlotte Street, Georgetown location.
The pastor and the driver of the car got into a loud argument after the pastor objected to the man leaving his car parked on the parapet in front of the church and ignoring a no-parking barrier nearby.
At one stage during the confrontation, which was captured on video, the pastor could be seen briefly arming himself with a cutlass as he shouted at the driver and blocked him from removing his car from the area as the two argued.
In a video message today, the President of the Universal Church in Guyana, Pastor Dilipchand Bikharie, announced that the pastor involved in the confrontation is no longer qualified to be a pastor in Guyana and has since been removed. Bikharie offered an apology to the country on behalf of the since removed pastor. He said his conduct was unbecoming.

“Due to his misconduct, and bad behaviour, for this reason, the Board of the Universal Church here in Guyana has come to an agreement that this pastor has been disqualified from being a pastor here in Guyana. We always teach love, peace and hope and not war. And with that I would like to sincerely apologise to all the citizens of Guyana”, Bikharie said.
The incident forced the Georgetown City Council to once again issue a warning about the illegal erection of no parking signs and barriers on the city’s parapets. The City Council said the church was never granted any private parking permission and it made moves the same day to remove the illegal no parking sign.
