Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore today found former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe, not guilty of three counts of sexual assault.
Slowe, who also served as Chairman of the Police Service Commission between 2018 and 2021 was charged in October 2021.
The case against Slowe stated that while he served as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, he sexually assaulted a female rank in 2019 by allegedly rubbing her leg in a sexual manner without consent.
In handing down her ruling this morning, Magistrate Azore stated that the Prosecution had failed in meeting the legal threshold in the matter. A Police statement noted that the Magistrate based her ruling mainly on the fact that the evidence of the Prosecution and the Defence is of equal weight and the law is clear that when this is the case, the benefit of the doubt must go to the accused.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Police Legal Advisor, Attorney Mandel Moore, who has since indicated that the Police intend to appeal the decision of the Court.
Mr. Slowe, who just after the Government changed in 2020 had announced that he had objected to support promotions of favourites of the President, continues to be an outspoken critic of the Government. After his public statements on the issue, he was also slammed with fraud charges. Those charges were also thrown out by the Court.
Mr. Slowe was represented by a battery of lawyers, including Dawn Cush, Nigel Hughes and Dexter Todd.
