Automated and randomized driver’s examination coming soon

The Government will be working along closer with the Guyana Police Force to reform the Driver’s examination in the coming months, and according to President Irfaan Ali, new drivers will have to face an automated examination that will be randomized.

At a press conference this afternoon, the President said only today the Traffic Chief dispatched over 1600 letters to drivers who are suspected to have cheated the Driver’s examination. He said the new exam will be different and more secured.

“The system allows for automated post audits and we are now moving the test, the driver’s license test to the Guyana Digital School platform where the questions are automatically generated. Nobody will have any question paper two days before. If you go now to write the test, 10 minutes after the questions are completely different. It’s random sampling, and the system will throw up the questions and mark it immediately, so you can know your results there”, he explained.

The President also stated that the Government will be boosting the already successful traffic cameras that have been set up along the main roadways, by adding more of them that are powered by artificial intelligence. The President said the Government will be rolling out a security architecture that will rely heavily on artificial intelligence.

“Our AI powered surveillance system will do a lot of things for us. We already have the eyes in the sky that allows for facial recognition, behavioral analysis, crowd monitoring, suspicious movement, detection, automated alert system, vehicle recognition system…the Digital Policing Services include mobile apps, smart kiosk services, online porters, digital ID, and all of this will be integrated into a common system”, Ali said.

The Government has been pressing forward with a smart city, smart country initiative that will rely on surveillance cameras to fight against traffic incidents and all forms of crime. It was explained that the system is already providing results and has resulted in better use of the roadways where those smart cameras are positioned.
