APNU calls on President to come clean on ownership, financing and operation of multi-billion dollar farming facility

The Opposition, APNU today said President Irfaan Ali must come clean on the full ownership, financing and operation of the multi-billion farming facility that he has admitted to owning at Long Creek on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

In a statement that followed a weekend revelation by the Leader of Opposition, Azruddin Mohamed that the President owns and operates the massive farm, the APNU said the President must fully disclose his income, assets, liabilities, and the financial arrangements associated with the lands.

“The President must state unequivocally whether he is the beneficial owner of the farm lands in question. Further, given reports that the lease arrangement amounts to approximately $25 million annually, the Guyanese people deserve to know how such payments are being financed and whether they are consistent with his declared sources of income,” APNU said.

It said as the President, Ali has a fiduciary responsibility to the people of Guyana, and is obligated to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

“The public is entitled to know how this wealth was acquired and whether all relevant declarations have been made in accordance with the law,” it said.

Such transparency, the coalition said, would serve to dispel doubts, strengthen public confidence, and demonstrate a commitment to the principles of good governance.

It said in a democratic society, no public official, regardless of office, is above scrutiny, and President Ali must answer the very legitimate questions that have since surfaced.

President Irfaan Ali has admitted ownership of the farming facility and has promised to offer a tour of the facility on his return to Guyana.
