Opposition party, APNU, is again calling on President Irfaan Ali to come clean and show proof of how he was able to finance his mega-farm on Long Creek on the Soesdyke Highway.
During a press conference today, APNU Member of Parliament, Saiku Andrews said the matter is being treated casually when there are serious questions to answer.
He said although the President and other Government officials have sought to justify the acquisition of the farm, as well as the assets and development there, the broader question about how such operations were financed remain unanswered.
“All we are saying is the facts on the ground is telling us that this is possible , show proof to us that it is possible, prove to use that you are a President that we can trust and a public official that we can believe, proof to people that you are worthy of that trust, we don’t need the commissioner of information to give us that,” Andrews noted.
The President has already said that his farm and assets were acquired through hard work and bank loans. He said all his business dealings have been above board.
Mr. Andrews said while this could be true, there needs to be evidential proof to support the President’s claim.
“We cannot have a President casually and cavalierly speak carelessly, that in my mind is so disrespectful to the Guyanese people, Guyanese people do not want a tour of the farm. Guyanese people want to understand, is the farm yours, is the investment the magnitude it is claiming to be, give us the reality between what we see and what the truth is,” Andrews stated.

Andrews said the APNU is hoping that it will get support from the Government and Opposition parties with the amendments it has submitted for the Integrity Commission Act, as it seeks greater accountability from public officials.
“We are very hopeful given all that is happening now with the farm and the questions about corruption that the PPP will find it very important to lend their support to this, we are not asking for anybody head, all we are asking for is accountability so that people don’t commit themselves and then they are slandered about corruption and owning wealth that did not abound through their earnings legitimately,” the Opposition MP stated.
Opposition parties continue to press the President to come clean on his farm, while the President has sought to justify the acquisition of the farm.
