School of the Nations Student Selected for Prestigious TED Summer School in London

School of the Nations has congratulated one its students, Emmanuel Perreira on being selected to attend the TED Summer School in London after his impressive performance in the Learning to Be Heard – Global Public Speaking Challenge.

The international competition was organised by Immerse Education in partnership with TED Summer School.

Emmanuel was chosen from more than 2,000 applicants across over 130 countries.

Entrants were asked to answer the question, “If you had one minute to speak to the world, what would you speak about and why?” His response secured him a place in the programme as well as a 20% scholarship in recognition of his achievement.

The TED Summer School will take place in London from 26 July to 8 August 2026. The programme brings together talented young people from around the world to develop their public speaking, leadership and communication skills while sharing ideas with one another.

To support Emmanuel’s participation, School of the Nations has made a generous contribution towards his airfare and other travel costs, helping to reduce the financial burden of attending the programme.

High School Principal Mark Boodie said Emmanuel’s success shows the values the school encourages in its students.

“ Emmanuel’s achievement is the result of hard work, intellectual courage, and a willingness to engage with ideas that matter. Being selected from such a highly competitive international field is a remarkable accomplishment. We are delighted that he will represent both School of the Nations and Guyana at the TED Summer School, and we wish him every success.”

Emmanuel’s selection is a proud moment for School of the Nations. It also shows that Guyanese students can compete and succeed at the highest international level. The school looks forward to welcoming him home with the new knowledge, skills and experiences he will gain from this valuable opportunity.
