A fire on board the Liza Unity FPSO vessel, which is operating offshore Guyana in the Stabroek Block, temporarily halted operations aboard the vessel as emergency systems were activated earlier today.
In a brief statement, the ExxonMobil company described the fire as a “small fire”, which was quickly extinguished. The company explained that “heat detectors aboard the Liza Unity FPSO were activated in the laundry room of the living quarters, indicating a small fire, which was quickly extinguished”.
ExxonMobil said the appropriate response procedures were initiated, and all personnel aboard the vessel are safe and accounted for.
It was also explained that operations aboard the Liza Unity were suspended as part of the established safety response and will resume following completion of the necessary checks.
A full investigation has been launched to determine the source of the fire. The Liza Unity is one of five FPSO vessels currently operating in Guyana.
