The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into an incident that occurred this morning at the Mabaruma Airstrip involving a TransGuyana Cessna Caravan aircraft.

Just after landing at the airstrip at around 8:15 this morning, the aircraft overshot the runway. There were a number of passengers on board along with the lone female pilot, but no injuries were reported.

The Guyana Fire Service dispatched an emergency team to the site just after the incident to assist with getting the passengers out of the aircraft. A medical team was also involved in assessing the pilot and passengers.

In a statement, the GCAA said preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft experienced a runway excursion.

The authority said it has since dispatched its Accident and Investigation Team to the site to conduct a thorough assessment.

A passenger told News Source this afternoon that after the plane landed, it appeared as though the pilot could not slow it down or bring it to a complete stop, resulting in the decision to force it off the runway. The passenger said there was no issue with the aircraft during take-off from Ogle or during the flight.

The passengers and the pilot are to be interviewed by the Civil Aviation Authority investigative team as part of their probe.
