44-year-old Onai Nassy of Norton Street, Lodge was charged and remanded to jail today for cocaine trafficking.
He appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court this morning before Magistrate Tomika Clarke where the drug trafficking charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but bail was refused and he was remanded.
Nassy was arrested by the Police on Sunday during an operation in the Richmondville Housing area in Providence on the East Bank of Demerara during a Police operation.
According to the Police, during a search of a car that was being driven by the accused, investigators found several packets of frozen fish. A further search of the frozen fish unearthed packets of cocaine stashed in them. The cocaine carried a total weight of 36 pounds, and it is believed that the Police may have been tipped off about the movement of the drugs.
The accused, who is a miner, is expected to make his next Court appearance on the 15th October, 2026.
