WIN Member of Parliament resigns over allegations related to sexual assault

Member of Parliament for the Opposition, We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) party, Dr. Andre Lewis, has resigned as a Member of the National Assembly, citing allegations made against him and an ongoing investigation into those allegations.

News Source understands that Dr. Lewis is facing sexual assault allegations.

In a letter dated October 2 and addressed to Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir, Lewis said his resignation takes effect upon receipt of the letter.

The MP said the decision was made in light of the seriousness of the allegations and the responsibilities associated with holding public office.

“Given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities attached to public office, I believe that resigning from the National Assembly is the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing,” the letter states.

Lewis stressed that the resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing or a determination of guilt.

“I remain committed to due process and to allowing the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations,” the MP said.

The MP also expressed gratitude to the people of Guyana for the opportunity to serve in Parliament and to We Invest in Nationhood for its confidence and support.
