Hours after a recording of a telephone conversation with someone suspected to be Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fizal Karimbaksh and the alleged victim who has accused him of rape, the Deputy Commissioner has denied that the voice on the recording is his.
In a statement through his Attorney Rizwaun Mohammed, Deputy Commissioner Karimbaksh said the audio recording which is being circulated on social media and attributed to him was generated by Artificial Intelligence.
The Attorney said Mr. Karimbaksh has rejected the recording as an authentic account of a conversation involving him and denies making statements attributed to him.
The Attorney further stated that the alleged AI generated material falsely reproduces the voice of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The Attorney reiterated that the allegations against Mr. Karimbaksh must be addressed through a thorough, fair and impartial investigation, free from interference, speculation and prejudgment.
He said neither repetition nor widespread circulation of the audio recording he said is AI generated establishes authenticity.
“Our client expressly reserves all rights and remedies available to protect his name, character and reputation, including the institution of proceedings against any person or entity responsible for creating, publishing or disseminating the disputed material, should the evidence establish a lawful basis for such action. In deference to the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from further substantive public comment on the recording pending its proper examination”, he said.
In the audio recording, which was first released by BIG SMITH News Watch, a voice believed to be that of the Deputy Commissioner could be heard complaining about the allegations made by the alleged victim against him.
The male voice on the recording could be heard offering the alleged victim $5 million to end the matter and recant her allegations.
The Guyana Police Force has been investigating the allegations made by the female Police Inspector against the Deputy Commissioner for almost a month.
Attempts were made by the Police Commissioner to instruct the Deputy Commissioner to proceed on leave pending the outcome of the probe.
However, the Commissioner was forced to back off from that position following objections from the Attorney for the Deputy Commissioner and advice from the Attorney General’s Chambers that he had no such Constitutional power to instruct the Deputy Commissioner to proceed on leave.
The matter remains under probe.
