The carnage on Guyana’s roadways continued late last night when 42-year-old motorcyclist, Kwesi Griffith, lost his life after being involved in an accident at the corners of Sheriff Street and the Rupert Craig Highway in Georgetown.
The accident involved a car that was being driven by a 25-year-old man from Linden.
According to a Police report, the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the road when he sped through a red traffic light and ended up in the path of the motor car that was being driven in a western direction.
The Police investigators found that the car came into contact with the motorcycle, pitching the rider into the air, before he landed some distance away from the point of impact.
He sustained multiple head injuries when he hit the roadway. An ambulance was summoned from the Georgetown Hospital, and the motorcyclist, Kwesi Griffith, was pronounced dead on the scene.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the car, but there was no trace of alcohol found in his system. He was questioned about the accident and served with a notice of intended prosecution, even as the investigations are ongoing.
