Ex-lover charged for murder in burning death of Sophia woman

Almost two weeks after a North Sophia woman died from burn injuries about her body, her reputed husband has been charged for murder.

27-year-old Wazim Perreira is accused of dousing his ex-lover, Olivia DeFreitas with gasolene and setting her alight.

The woman spent over a month in the Georgetown Hospital, but passed away recently.

A post-mortem examination revealed that she died from injuries associated with secondary burns about her body.

In Court today, the accused was unrepresented and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

The victim had reportedly ended the couple’s relationship and that irked the man.

She had complained before of him being abusive to her.

Just after the burning incident, the accused was arrested and charged for attempted murder. The charge was upgraded to murder today following the woman’s death.

He will make his next Court appearance at the end of this month.
