Guyanese critic fails to reverse $52M judgment in favour of Mohameds

Social media commentator, Mikhil Rodrigues aka “Guyanese Critic” has lost in his attempt to get the High Court to overturn a judgment against him in favour of Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed.

He has been informed by the Court that the $52 Million judgment against him still stands and he will now have to pay additional costs to both Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed.

Rodrigues entire appeal of the original judgment has been dismissed by the Court.

The Court also ruled today that the injunction against Rodrigues and his They Break News company, preventing him from further defaming the Mohameds continues in full effect. His appeal of that injunction was also dismissed.

In handing down the ruling, Justice Niles stated that the explanation provided by Rodrigues and his company to the Court in their effort to overturn the original judgement was inadequate and did not satisfy the Court.

In the lawsuits against Rodrigues, which were filed in May 2024, the Mohameds stated that Rodrigues at various times in February and March of this year during his morning programme defamed both the father and his son.

It was explained that in the case of the father, Rodrigues played several voice notes of him on his live online programme and later made derogatory remarks against him.

The senior Mohamed in Court documents said he was offended by multiple statements made by Rodrigues during his talk show, but particularly took umbrage to Rodrigues insinuating that he is a criminal.

Mr. Mohamed also submitted to the Court that Rodrigues made statements to the effect that his family was financing the teachers protest back in February.

According to the businessman, Rodrigues in another programme in March, told his audience that the Mohameds destroyed many lives.

He said he was also offended by other statements made by Mikhil Rodrigues.
