Labourer found dead after drunken row at Soesdyke

A 40-year-old labourer from Timehri was found dead early on Sunday morning, hours after he was involved in a drunken row with a group of men at a Soesdyke bar. A police murder investigation is now underway.

Investigators have identified the dead labourer as Yoel Valenzuela of Timerhri, East Bank Demerara.

Three suspects have been identified and are under probe for the murder.

According to a Police statement, Valenzuela along with his son and two other relatives were at a sports bar at Soesdyke when one of the suspects approached the 40-year-old man and two got into an argument.

The argument quickly escalated into a fight, with the two men pouncing on each other. Valenzuela reportedly ran from the sports bar with the three men chasing after him.

His badly battered body was discovered a few hours later with wounds to the back and head. One of the three suspects has since been arrested, and investigators have also taken statements from eyewitnesses.

The murder remains under active investigation.
