In the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today, a store clerk was sentenced to 36 months in jail by a city Magistrate after pleading guilty to stealing money from her place of employment.
28-year-old Rondelle Junior, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer to the charge, which stated that between March 1st and March 16th, while being employed as a Clerk at Midas Enterprise, she converted $219,000 to her own use.
The Police Prosecutor told the Court that the store’s owner discovered that money was being paid to the business but was not being recorded. The owner started to do his own investigation and learnt that the woman may have been stashing the cash since she started to work at the store.
Police investigators were called in and charges were filed against the woman upon the completion of the investigation.
After pleading guilty, the convict told the Court that she stole the money to better provide for her boyfriend and five children.
