Teenager remanded to jail over attempted murder of friend during drunken fight

A drunken argument and fight between two friends in the North West District has left one of the young men nursing serious injuries and hospitalized, while the other one is sitting behind bars.

19-year-old, Ronald Marks appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today and a charge of attempted murder was read to him.

He is accused of stabbing his friend, Henry Santiago, several times as the two got into a heated argument during an alcohol-laced drinking spree. He was charged with unlawful and malicious wounding with the intent to commit murder. In Court today, the youth was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

However, the Court was told that he had acted in self-defense since he was first attacked and chopped to one of his legs by the same man he stabbed.

The victim remains hospitalized in a critical condition. The incident took place this past Sunday in the North West District.

The Prosecutor objected to bail and the accused was remanded to prison until next month, when the case will come up again.
