AFC to unveil its “Pathway to the Future” vision for Guyana

The Alliance For Change (AFC) has pledged to bring economic and social justice to the people of Guyana, as the party celebrates its 19th Anniversary.

At a party flag raising ceremony at its Kitty Head Office this morning, Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes said the AFC will soon unveil its vision for Guyana – ‘Pathway to the Future’ – as it forges ahead with its plans to transform the country’s economic and social landscape.

He said though Guyana now has the financial resources to actually fund the development dreams of its foreparents, those resources are being mismanaged by the current administration –putting at risk the country’s future.

But the AFC, he assured, would be the change.

Optimistic that the party will do well at the next elections, Mr. Hughes said the AFC would enter a pact with the people of Guyana to bring about a “new Republic” where there is a high level of respect, transparency and accountability.

“The Alliance For Change has a pact with all of the people of Guyana about its future. It’s going to be a pact for a new republic that will bring economic and social justice. It will bring hope, it will bring a very high degree of responsibility, and we in the Alliance For Change, both in Guyana and internationally with members of the diaspora, we will provide leadership and government next year that will allow this country, perhaps, the first time in its history to fulfill its full potential,” Hughes said.

The AFC Leader said under the “new Republic”, no one will be left behind, and Guyanese regardless of their political affiliation would be included in the country’s development.

“This is going to be a partnership you and us; it’s going to be a pact between you and us, in which every single citizen in this country, every group, every political group, every civil group will participate in the creation, development and execution of a new republic and a new Guyana,” Hughes said.

Founding Member of the AFC, Khemraj Ramjattan, in his address, said despite the many challenges and predictions from critics that it would crumble under pressure, the party has remained a driving force.

He said under the leadership of Hughes, there is renewed enthusiasm, and the party looks to the future with great optimism.

“I am happy to say that our present leadership, our present youth leadership and women leadership in the Alliance For Change have continued that journey, notwithstanding the very many challenges,” he said.

Ramjattan, however, said the anniversary presents an opportunity for both celebration and retrospection.

“Brothers and sisters, colleagues, let us celebrate this. We must also, during the course of the celebration also do retrospection as to where we ought to do better, where we did wrong, and of course what are some of the policies orientations that we must, in view of a 2024 scenario, commend for the electorate, for the people and our support base,” he said.

AFC Chairman David Patterson, and Executive Member, Cathy Hughes were among officials present at the event.

AFC was founded in 2005 by Khemraj Ramjattan who hailed from the PPP, Raphael Trotman, who left the PNC and the late Sheila Holder who was from the WPA.
