President David Granger on Monday announced that Finance Minister, Winston Jordan, will present the government’s 2017 National budget days before the end of 2016.

The 2017 national budget will be presented on December 5, 2016 according to the President.  He made the announcement on Monday morning while opening the National Toshao Conference at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre.

News Source understands that consultations are set to begin in two weeks and the Finance Ministry will be reaching out to all relevant stakeholders.

Many regions are lagging behind with their budget projects and they might be forced to return unused money to the national treasury once those projects are incomplete by the passage of the new budget.

The government has been pushing to have early budget presentations and passage to ensure more time to begin and complete government projects.

Today, the President also said that in order to maintain pattern of preparation, the government is already considering the establishment of a ministerial planning unit.
