AFC continues call for thorough and transparent probe of Adriana Younge’s death and condemns violent acts of protest

With the preliminary findings from the pathologists indicating that 11-year-old Adrianna Younge died by drowning, the Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes is continuing the call for “thorough and transparent investigation” into her death, while condemning violent acts of protests that have been taking place in parts of the country.

In a statement this morning, Mr. Hughes said while the post-mortem report provides an important first step in understanding the circumstances surrounding the tragic passing of the young child, it is clear that many questions remain unanswered.

“We therefore reiterate the urgent need for a full, thorough, and transparent investigation to determine how and why Adrianna drowned,” Hughes said in a statement.

The post mortem examination on the remains of the 11-year-old was conducted Monday afternoon by three international pathologists. The findings triggered protests in at least four regions, with a number of roads being blocked and debris set ablaze.

Hughes condemns such actions.

“We must also strongly condemn the acts of violence, the destruction of property, the looting, and the blocking of public roads that have followed the announcement of these findings. These actions undermine the cause of justice and do not honor Adrianna’s memory. Violence, lawlessness, and disorder must never be the response to grief or outrage. Not in Adrianna Younge’s name,” he said.

The AFC has issued a call on all citizens to act peacefully and lawfully as the nation continues to seek the full truth behind Younge’s death. The AFC Leader noted that justice must be pursued with resolve, but always with respect for the rule of law and the rights of all.
