The Attorney General said he was first contacted about the issue by Attorney Shaun Allicock of the Allicock and Dodson Lawfirm. The Attorney who was arrested, Tamieka Clarke is attached to the Allicock and Dodson Law Firm.

AG Nandlall apologises to Attorney over “unfortunate” arrest

Describing the arrest of Attorney Tamieka Clarke by the Special Organised Crime Unit as an “unfortunate” incident, Attorney General Anil Nandlall today said once he became aware of the situation, he contacted the Head of SOCU and the investigating officer and made it clear to them that the Attorney ought to be released.

“I made contact with the Officer who was conducting the investigation and I advised that Ms. Clarke ought to be released immediately. I made contact with Mr. Shaun Allicock (Attorney) and told him of the intervention I made…I spoke with Ms. Clarke and I told her of my intervention and the advice and offered her an apology as a colleague of the bar over the unfortunate incident”, AG Nandlall said in a video statement.

The Attorney General said he was first contacted about the issue by Attorney Shaun Allicock of the Allicock and Dodson Lawfirm. The Attorney who was arrested, Tamieka Clarke is attached to the Allicock and Dodson Law Firm.

The Attorney General said he became involved in the issue as the chief legal advisor to the Guyana Police Force.

The arrest of the young Attorney has triggered calls for a full investigation of the incident and for apologies to be issued by the Guyana Police Force.
