In the North Rupununi region, an early Sunday morning accident claimed the life of a 48-year-old man from the village of Annai. He has since been identified as Annai Village Councillor, Lennox George.
According to a Police statement, George was the driver of a minibus and was speeding along the Bina Hill Road just before 4:00 am on Sunday when he lost control of the mini-bus after it plowed into a pothole.
The bus ended up off of the roadway and came to a stop after slamming into a tree. The driver died at the scene.
Two other persons who were in the bus, a 20-year-old woman and her six-year-old son, received injuries and were assisted by passersby and taken to a clinic in the area where they were treated.
Investigators have determined that speeding was a factor in the accident.
