Building owner and worker charged with triple murder in 2014 Robb St. fire

The 74-year-old owner of a Robb and King Streets building which was gutted by fire back in 2014, killing a father and his two daughters, has been charged for the triple murder along with his 21-year-old employee.

The elderly man, Ganga Krishna and his employee Avishkar Bissoon, were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges of murder when they appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Monday.

They were charged with the murder of 63-year-old Hilrod Thomas along with his daughters, 14-year-old Clarissa Rozario and 12-year-old Theresa Rozario.

The three were asleep in the upper flat of the building when it was set on fire.

Several eyewitnesses had reported seeing someone throwing something into the old building moments before a loud explosion was heard and the entire building became engulfed in flames.

The two children were burnt to death while their father was forced to jump from the building after failing to save them. He died days later from severe injuries.

The Prosecution’s case is that the building owner wanted the man and his children out of the building and after several attempts to get them out, he decided along with his employee to set fire to the building to destroy it completely.

Three years before the fire which claimed the lives of the three persons and destroyed most of the building, there was an arson attempt was a flammable device was thrown into the building.

The two murder accused have been remanded to prison.
