Caribbean Airlines apologises and launches probe into use of incorrect Guyana map in advertisement

Regional carrier, Caribbean Airlines, has apologised to Guyana and launched an investigation into the publication of an incomplete map of Guyana in an advertisement carried in its Caribbean Beat in-flight magazine.

In a statement today, the Airline said it has taken immediate steps to investigate how the error occurred and to ensure stronger internal review processes are in place to prevent a reoccurrence.

Caribbean Airline described the publication as an ‘error’.

“Caribbean Airlines hold the highest regard for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations it serves and fully recognizes the significance of national symbols, including maps to the people of Guyana,” the Airline said in a statement.

The airline said it recognizes 83,000 square miles to be on the map of Guyana and deeply regrets what occurred.  It says it understands the concerns raised by its Guyanese customers as well as other stakeholders.

The map, which was displayed, showed parts of Tigri region in the Corentyne, Berbice area missing.

The airline said that the error was unintentional and does not reflect the views or values of the company.

Caribbean Airlines also said it will continue to foster unity, respect and mutual understanding across the Caribbean.

Just recently, Guyana had cause to object to the same section of the map missing during a conference in neighbouring Suriname. The neighbouring country has falsely claimed the area as its own.
